Story

Lü Dongbin, original name Lü Yan, also known as Chunyangzi, lived in the Tang Dynasty. He is one of the Eight Immortals in Taoism. He was well-read in his youth but repeatedly failed the imperial examinations. He met Zhongli Quan and was awakened by the famous "Golden Millet Dream". Realizing worldly glory is illusory, he became Zhongli Quan’s disciple to cultivate Taoism. He mastered swordsmanship and alchemy, wielding the Chunyang Sword that could slay demons and monsters. He traveled widely to help the poor and rescue people in distress. He often disguised himself as ordinary people to test the kindness of mortals. Later generations honored him as Emperor Chunyang. He is widely worshipped and regarded as one of the most approachable immortals among folk believers.
